Individual Round Trip

Santiago, São Vicente, Santo Antão:
The highlights of the archipelago followed by a beach stay on Boa Vista.

This trip consists of a combination of a one-week round trip with the highlights of the country followed by some relaxed days on the seaside island of Boavista. With Santiago, the “African”, São Vicente the “Cultural”, and Santo Antão, the “Tropical Green Island”, you’ll gain a good insight into the diversity of Cape Verde with little effort. With an eye on the costs, this trip includes the most beautiful excursions, in a very relaxed way. You will then relax on the island of Boa Vista.

Day 1: Santiago – Arrival

When you arrive at Santiago airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation in the capital, Praia. Your hotel is on the plateau, which is the historic centre of the town. From here you can easily find the vegetable market and numerous shops, restaurants, and bars on foot.

Day 2: Santiago – Cidade Velha, the first settlement

After breakfast, you will set off for Cidade Velha, the oldest town in Cape Verde, which was once the country’s capital and was an important centre of the international slave trade. The town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. During your visit, you will see the main square with the former pillory and visit the fortress Fortaleza Real de São Filipe as well as the church Nossa Senhora do Rosario.

Day 3: Santiago / São Vicente

Your driver will take you from your accommodation to Santiago airport. After the domestic flight, your driver will meet you at São Vicente airport and take you to your accommodation in the centre of the colonial port city of Mindelo. Day 4: São Vicente – Lively harbour town and volcanic island

Explore Mindelo on foot today. Stroll past colonial promenades, hear stories of the good old days, and observe the lively life in the heart of the island. Lively markets and historic squares will delight you. At lunch, we serve you the traditional dish “Cachupa,” which is a hearty bean stew. Strengthened, together with your driver and a guidebook in English, you will then discover the small but beautiful interior of the island: let volcanic landscapes pass you by, bathe in Baía das Gatas if you wish, and end your excursion on Monte Verde, which offers a wonderful view of the island on a clear day.

Day 5: São Vicente / Santo Antão: Mountain road and dreamlike valley

In the early morning, you arrive in Santo Antão by ferry, with your driver waiting for you. Over the historic pass road, you drive into the green north of the island and have spectacular views again and again. Later on, you will enter the greenest valley of Cape Verde. Passing through tropical vegetation and sugar cane and banana fields, you’ll see mango and papaya trees. Enjoy lunch in an idyllically located restaurant before you drive to Ponta do Sol to your accommodation.

Day 6: Santo Antão – The Green North and the Mountain Village

Your English-speaking driver will pick you up from your accommodation after breakfast. On the second day of Santo Antão, you will have a closer look at the green north of this island. The journey takes you first to Fontainhas. The picturesque village on a hillside is one of the most beautiful in Cape Verde and offers an inviting break. Next, you will drive through the breathtaking Ribeira Grande valley to Chã de Igreja, the village of the church, where you can enjoy a typical lunch with a hospitable family. Then, in the afternoon, you will return to your accommodation.

Day 7: Back to Mindelo

The ferry takes you back to São Vicente, where you will spend another night in Mindelo because of the flight schedule.

Day 8: São Vicente / Boavista

Fly ing to the bathing island of Boavista. From here you will be
transferred to your accommodation.

Orquidea Guesthouse

It is a small and personally run accommodation located on the outskirts of the small island capital Sal Rei, only about 50m from the beach. All the rooms are spacious and appealingly furnished. Enjoy breakfast in the inner courtyard, surrounded by tropical greenery.

Day 9 – Day 11: Boavista – Relaxing on the Bathing Island

You can relax on the “Sahara in the Atlantic”, as Boavista is also called. There are many beautiful beaches on the island, many of which are not overcrowded and some of which are still completely deserted. The capital of the island is a cozy place – stress and hectic are also foreign words here. On one day, we do a tour of the island: in the sand dunes of Viana, you get the impression that you are in the middle of the desert. Visiting the first village on the island, you drive past the stone desert and some mountains before getting to know two of the lonely dream beaches. Bathing, relaxing … and a delicious lunch, prepared fresh on the beach.

Day 12: Boavista – Departure

We have been organising trips to the Cape Verde Islands for more than 15 years with a German/Cape Verdean team of almost 20 people. Together with our drivers and guides, we work hand in hand on all nine inhabited islands of the archipelago.
