Day 1: SANTIAGO – Arrival in Cape Verde

When you arrive at Santiago airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation in the capital, Praia. Your hotel is on the plateau, which is the histo ric centre o f the to wn. Fro m here y o u can easily find the vegetable market and numerous shops, restaurants, and bars on foot.

Day 2: SANTIAGO – First and current capital

During the first part of this varied day, you will get to know the historical part of the capital, Praia. With a guided walk on the plateau, you will visit a colonial-style square and then observe the lively hustle and bustle at the colorful fruit and vegetable market. Next, you will visit the African-inspired Sucupira market, where nearly everything can be bought, from chickens and second-hand clothes to household goods or the latest music hits. Later on, you will go to Cidade Velha, the first settlement and capital of the archipelago, which now belongs to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. You’ll enjoy a view of the sea and the town from the fort and then get to know it on a short tour. You’ll see the slave banner and the first church in West Africa, which bear witness to the era of the seafarers and pirates. A subsequent easy hike in the adjacent green valley, Ribeira Grande, rounds off the excursion. You will stay overnight in Praia again.

Day 3: SANTIAGO – Island Tour

Experience an island tour of the most African of all Cape Verde islands. Along the way, you will pass mountain landscapes of volcanic origin to the small botanical garden with some endemic plants. You will then visit the colorful vegetable market in Assomada before continuing to the most beautiful beach on the island, which is located in Tarrafal. Have a refreshing swim and fortify yourself with a traditional lunch. On your way back, you will drive along the coast, past small rural settlements, and through agricultural areas.

Day 4: SANTIAGO / FOGO – The colonial town of São Filipe

You will leave Santiago today. After a short flight, you will arrive on Fogo and be transferred to your accommodation. Explore the capital of the island: São Filipe, with its colonial small-town charm, will delight you. Whether you pass quiet, well-kept squares or historic stately homes, it’s hard to resist the town’s appeal. A visit to the oldest bakery, where you can taste homemade biscuits, will round off the city tour (not possible on Sundays). You will stay overnight in a former colonial house that now offers exceptional accommodation.

Day 5: FOGO – Crater landscapes and the Pico

In the morning, after breakfast, continue your journey to the famous volcanic crater. As you drive along winding roads, you will pass small villages, hilly countryside, isolated small herds, and lava formations, gradually ascending to an altitude of 1,700 meters. Marvel at the lava formations created during the last eruptions in 1951, 1995, and 2014 as you walk through the area. Fumaroles and sulfur deposits showcase the island’s fiery nature. As you navigate through the black rock, you will notice scattered vines growing in volcanic soil, which serve as the foundation for the rich Fogo wine. Enjoy lunch with a hospitable family as part of your experience.

Day 6: FOGO – São Filipe / day on leisure

After the first impressive excursions, to day is at your leisure.

Day 7: FOGO / SÃO VICENTE – Arrival in Mindelo

You will be transferred to Fogo airport for a short flight via Santiago to São Vicente. There your driver will take you to your accommodation in the centre of the colonial port city of Mindelo – a lovingly furnished, privately run house from where you can easily reach the historic centre on foot, as well as nearby restaurants and shops.

Day 8: SÃO VICENTE – Mindelo and island tour by jeep

During the morning, it’s time to explore the colonial port city of Mindelo. You’ll discover lively markets and historic squares, getting to know the cultural side of Mindelo by visiting a museum or exhibition, hearing stories from the life of Cesaria Evora, and dropping by a guitar workshop.

In the afternoon, you’ll take a seat in your jeep with a driver/guide, embarking on a journey far away from civilization through untouched nature, from the northern to the southern coast. You’ll arrive at a long beach exclusively for you. Afterward, you’ll drive through an agricultural area and visit the small volcanic crater Topim, offering a view of the uninhabited neighboring islands of Santa Luzia, Raso, and Branco. You can enjoy the turquoise-colored water and white sandy beach with black lava formations before heading to the fishing village of Calhau, known for its colorful fishing boats, and finally returning to Mindelo.

Day 9: SÃO VICENTE / SANTO ANTÃO – Discovering the green Paúl Valley

Day 10: SANTO ANTÃO – Spectacular views along the cliffs

The next highlight of the trip awaits you: the spectacular hike along the steep coast to Ponta do Sol. You will go uphill and downhill on old mule tracks. You can enjoy the views of bizarre rocks, deep gorges, small sandy bays and the Atlantic Ocean. You will reach the picturesque hillside village of Fontainhas, where time seems to have stood still. Short break before continuing to the fishing village of Ponta do Sol, the northernmost point of the archipelago. This is where your luggage ‘awaits’ you in your new accommodation.

Day 11: SANTO ANTÃO – Ponta do Sol / Day at leisure

In Ponta do Sol, you will find a place where you feel at home.

Day 12: Back to São Vicente

In the morning you will spend the day in Ponta do Sol. A shared taxi will take you to the port of Porto Novo in the afternoon, from where the ferry will take you back to São Vicente. On arrival in São Vicente, your driver will take you to your accommodation, which you already know. Let your holiday come to an end with a good dinner.

Day 13: SÃO VICENTE – Departure
