You will need to apply for residency which is a much more difficult process. You may need to prove income or capital assets to do this. It is best to buy a property.

It is unlikely that Easyjet will go to Cape Verde as it does not have the sort of traffic that they need and their versions of the 737 lack the range. But it is a good route to pick up the Portuguese chatrter flights.

I have just seen a plan for a marina at Murdeira. Unfortunately it has been drawn just as a square box, wide open to the prevailing wave direction. Obviously no real work has been done. And the people behind it evidently know little about marinas or yachts. The seabed would probably have to be dredged in this bay which is very shallow and the whole exercise could be quite costly and therefore delayed.

I am not permitted to tell you. If I do Daniel will wipe it off. It is his site so we must stick to the rules. Try Google.

This site is predominantly used by people from North Western Europe and North America. For all of them Lisbon is the best place to fly from. It is a shame that Daniel wipes out all the helpful information but I guess that sooner or later a less restrictive froum will start up.

But thats £430 (minimum I would say) PLUS the cost of a week/fortnights accomodation in Sal. Thats whats putting off most Brits in going there !!

No that is the price for flight, hotel and visa for one week. TAP has just raised its prices from the UK by £80 to about £477 so it looks even more attractive. Both eayjet and Monarch now offer budget flights to Lisbon. But you have to book early to get the low prices. Another operator is considering flights from Manchester and Gatwick to Sal – but is having difficulty in seeing sufficient volume just yet even to fill a weekly 737.

    Go and take a look.

There are dozens of new properties, many nearer the beach than this, some further away and cheaper. You will have to take a look. Some of the Irish who have bought there have reported problems with completion. Ask around.

Well it has changed a bit as we are involved in the Super Yacht race which will take this route to Antigua. So that is new. We will take our own boat from Hamble when it is safer. For now it is sheltered anchorages only.

The Consulate in Den Haag never responds. But if you take a charter flight with a return date, the visa is included. If you are planning a stay longer than a few weeks, you will have to ask at the arrrival airport for an extension. This is normally provided.

Halcyonair is backed by a number of Cape Verdean and Portuguese tour operators and travel agencies and significantly by a former prime minister of the Cape Verdes. The plane they bought for the Cape Verdes has redeployed to the Dakar-Bissau route because they cannot afford to have it sid idle. Ther is still some hope of a competitive and effective service this summer. Dream On.

Portugalia which operated the only flight to Lisbon from Manchester has today closed down. In the last few months it operated only three or four flights and passengers had to be rerouted through Heathrow. The Fokker 100 it used has redeployed to Roissy and staff hgave retired to Portugal. According to Aviation Development department at Manchester the route was not viable. This department has had no application whatsoever for a flight to the Cape Verdes and nor has Airport Coordination Ltd, the private company that licenses flights. Anybody can ring Andy, Chris, William or Aidan for confirmation through the main airport number. They reckon that if the airport cannot support a route to Lisbon, Sal is pretty far out. If somebody does put on such a flight, they reckon it would soon follow Portugalia. Neither ******* nor ******* two of the main expert travel agencies are booking such a flight. But dream on.

A boat that you can launch from a trolley eg dinghy or runabout is fine, although you will need to find a secure place to store it, such as Murdeira on Sal. There are harbours at Praia, Palmeira, Mindelo and Sal Rei with protected anchorages. And many boats anchor at Santa Maria. But the general consensus of yacht owners is that you need to keep someone on biard at all times as in many Atlantic anchorages. Marinas have been talked about for years as have golf courses. One will surely come but when and where is a roulette play.

The best value developments are the smaller ones put up by Cape Verdean builders, You will have to go there to find them. None of the mobster developments touted at property shows are such good value, though you may prefer them as you have so much to invest.
