Hi, I’m going to Cape Verde in November, visiting Santiago, Sao Vicente, Santo Antau (one day) and Sal. I’m interested in seeing more than just beaches and wondered what is the best way of getting round the islands relatively inexpensively. I gather buses and similar don’t really exist; is that right? Do aluguers go everywhere, and are they simple for tourists to find out about – I speak very little Portuguese? I understand taxis are expensive, but are they the only option in some cases? What about car hire? Finally, are there any companies on the islands organising sightseeing trips; the “Cape Verde Experience” will arrange excursions, but they are very expensive for only two people.
