Hi andyrae1971,

If you travel merely to Sal, you needn't change into Escudos. There you can pay everything also in Euro currency.

To visit other islands, especially the less developed ones, you need the Escudo currency.

Hope, that I could help you.

Cheers. Looks like we are going to Riu Garopa which is on Sal.
See you all on October 18. Can't wait and me and the wife are really looking forward to being there. Will be traveling from UK with Thomson. A really good price as that's who the wife works for.

Hi If you want to buy something as soon as you land then take Euros as they are widely accepted. If you take £s then you will have to change at the bank or at the hotel. The euro is fixed at 110.265 against escudos buying or selling and thats what you get if you change at the bank. If you pay in Euros at a local shop they mostly (not all) use 1 to 1 so you loose 10% also you will only get change back in Escudos which you can do nothing with except in CV as its a closed currency. They don't even accept them on the flight back so if you don't intend to go again make sure you have non or little left before getting on the plane.

We are going out on the 19th Oct

On Sal you can ask for Euro-change in every store, and you get it without any problem. Especially before you go back to Europe, it is better not to have the country's currency in your wallet. The reason is, as it was written in here, that it is nowhere accepted and you can't change it at the bank at home.

You can if you want also use a visa debit card you can pop into a cash point at the banks in Santa Maria or Hotel and take out escudos, you get a better rate using escudos for paying for things such as food and drinks.

20,000 cve is 181E which is about £144 and you get charged around £4 to withdraw the cash.

The daily limit is 20,000 cve.
