HiFolks longtime no speak!! Why dont CV Govt. invest in eco friendly power production say Solar or wind power. There is so much sun and wind, you could build a solar power energy station and why not have solar power on Roofs for individual buildings! believe or not Shell is one of he commercial energy developers especially in S. america. Andby the way I have no interests in that company but a web search coes up with their deveoplments.

Also seeing Sal from the air via google earth shows the development over thelast year andyou can see where they could build a solar power station and wind farms — just a thought! At leat it wont blow up!!

This discussion has got a bit heated, but CV will not suit everyone!
Weve been and discussed buying and semi retiring their, but decided against, due to me being a senior citizen and the lack of complex health care that at our age we might require.

Also compared to say thailand, where property is built superbly, and you can still acquire a 3 bedroom villa with marble floors etc for prices way under what is being charged for a one bedroom in cv, plus furniture is cheap but fantastic quality etc or as the Americans say ” you get a lot more for your buck”

health care superb & better than NHS and cheaper.

But everyone is entitled to their own views and opinion – but unfortunately CV is not for us! But Thailand could be! Plus the fact you can have employment if you wish to work! And everything you require is cheaper to buy!

personaly CV would drive me loopy after 2 weeks as I would be extremely bored!

CV in my view _ and this is personal is becoming a property rip off and could be equated the way ” Timeshare went” But we would still come to CV for a holiday!

If you obtain the BRADT Travel Guide on the Cape Verde Islands, it is very comprehensive and explains all the info on residency etc.
including the guaranteed income required, or visit the web site advertised on the home page of “cape verde tips”
    both very informative.

All the remarks Interesting, and have there own merits, there is no right or wrong answer1 perhaps the other view is if you wish to invest your money in your own holiday property and not worry about a quick return on your investment then fine! But the other point to consider is as we did, if you are over 60 and wish to reside there, then you could have aproblem if you or your partmer became seriously ill, especially when serious surgery is required as you would have to go off the island! ( as some brits have found out to their cost in spain and portugal) As there is No NHS and private care plans are so expensive for the middleaged or over 60’s

I personally believe for renting out there needs to be a huge influx of flights a la Canary Islands to obtain a return for rental investment or to make a big killing is to sell when the Golf Courses are built! Thats what will help generate the Rental income! If in the meantime one has some spare cash that you wish to use for a rainy day so to speak, then invest in CV, but to make a magnificent return it might take years! Who Knows – it is a gamble if you just want to make money!

CV as far as we were concerned was a idealic location, but we could see it being spoilt with the useual fast food diners etc.’ and everyone trying to make a fast buck!

But personaly speaking – if I were to live out there at this moment in time, if I didnt have employment of some description I believe I could go loopy with boredom after a while or else become an alcholoic as after 2 weeks you would not have the motivation to do anything else!Because what else is ther for you to do, not even gardening, Unless of course you were a writer or artist or were a property agent!

Dont get me wrong its a fantastic place and we will be coming out to CV for hols- and yet and yes I would still like to live there but there is still that BUT what if scenario!!!

Everyone is entitled to their view point, and if I was young and not retired Id have bought there and then but with one of the local developers, whos build I rated very highly!

I hope this is a different viewpoint, I just hope I was being constuctive and not critising and was just trying to look at things from a different but personal angle!

Well I certainly started an interesting discussion, My Own view is that Some people like me and wife love CV due to its laid back life and want to retire out there! But there is is no point until you can guarantee sufficient water and power.

We personally dont wish to live in a big complex and prefer a small unit!

To retire out there you have to show you have a certain income per annum and have no criminal record which must be signed my uk police and the UK CV consul. You can then import your car and personal belongings free of duty! Otherwise import duty is the same price as the cost of the car! – I believe!

Anyway I just thought Id add that as Im all for CV and its life style! I just hope it doesnt change – TO MUCH!
