Hi guys. My wife recived a call from the developers today. A lady said that she was trying to speak to all the investors and that we will be notified of the offer within a week. There are 3 options as she understood it. Transfer the deposit to a Brazilian deposit or convert the deposit into an equity share in the development company. The 3rd option was another equity option which my wife struggled to comprehend due to the language barrier. She was told that there is no chance of a return of cash (obviously my preferred option) as there is no money.

Hopefully we will learn more imminently.

Hi all. Well maybe things will pick up for us this year and our dream will come to fruition. I hope that the Ashes have inspired those of us the Optiontrader pencilled in for the Cricket. Maybe some day……………..All the best, Steve

WorWilly. You obviously have more experience of the process than me. How would you best advise a group of investors who have paid 40% (100k euros give or take) on how to achieve satisfaction?

Worwilly, it is easy to be cynical. In this situation, everyone involved has to do what they see is best for them. Most of the people on this thread will have paid 40% of the cost price. They have the choice of walking away saving themselves the stress, spending money to sue with the implications involved or playing the game out.

From my own perspective, I have made a fair amount of money by speculating on Bricks and Mortar both in the UK and Internationally over the last decade. Sooner or later I was likely to catch a cold. Fortunately I am now in a position to make speculative investments like Cape Verde and potentially write off the loss. If I had not previously taken risks then that would not be the case.

It is easy to be negative and a harbinger of doom. In my experience fortune sometimes favours the brave and life’s more fun that way.

Me too, but by the time this villa is built, I think my family holiday retreat will have become a retirement pad and any cricketing prowess will have gone totally. Hey ho, I am sure we will get a happy ending. After all the twists and turns, the developer is viable, the location is great and the dream lives on!!

Oh the stress!! I would rather be sat watching a sedate cricket match with a cold beer in my hand and the sun shining. You never know!

ClarkStewart. No-one is happy and in the final analysis it is in there interests to arrange a compromise. They are a financially strong company with a vested interest in completing this project to their customers’ satisfaction. We are now in a phase of negotiation, they are communicating reasonably well, as always. We need to each take independent, professional advice, pool our responses and formulate a plan moving forward. There will be times of immense frustration etc. but I suspect that we will get there in the end. Chins up !!

Oh dear, here we go. Think it would have been a bit naive to think that PB would be exempt from difficulties. This is a nuisance personally as it will cause real difficulties for my domestic finances. Would appreciate the thoughts and comments of everyone else about how we can maximise our position without jeopardising the overall picture.

Why do all these threads keep getting ruined. What started as a really good website is being ruined. If someone posts something you don’t agree with, why not politely put forward your perspective and let other people form an informed opinion. Why so personal? Would you be the same if you met in a pub?

I think one of the problems may be that a lot of people compare flight times to Cape Verde with those in Europe. The islands are on a different continent and over five hours away. Compared to flight prices to New York/Dubai it is about par for the course.

People who invest have made a long term investment in the islands. Anyone who did will know that it was a higher risk than mainland europe. Time will tell whether it will pay off or not.
