    Hello,

as we have read from Aviator, the new airline for flights between Cape Verde islands will be starting soon, and the company name is Halcyon Air and they will operate 2 planes: 1 ATR42 and 1 ATR72.

I was able to get a photo fo one of the planes that will be sent to Cape Verde soon and is taken in France:

    ATR42-300

    For your explanation:
    “Origem” means: Departure
    “1” is Monday
    “2” is Tuesday
    etc.
    “6” is Saturday
    “7” is Sunday

    Best regards
    Daniel

According to Cape Verde Civil Aviation Agency Portugália has filed a request to fly to Cape Verde as well. Hope that we can see cheaper fares sooner rahter then later

Portugalia has told us that they will cooperate with TACV on codeshare traffic through Lisbon from other European destinations. Of course this does not preclude them running their own flights later, buy most of their fleet lacks the necessary range.

Some more good news is that TAP, which is the major carrier for tourists from Northern Europe has just reduced its consolidator fares (those paid by tour operators) to the lowest ever levels. Some of the base rates are now below what one could expect a charter airlne to charge, on similar routes. Fuel surcharges and airport taxes are rising which reduces the impact on the price the passenger pays. But with TACV putting in a new route to Oporto and Air Luxor, Hamburg International and Condor coming in this winter, it looks as though there will be enough flight capacity and competition to help build tourism in the islands, from the UK and Germany.

    Hello,

after more then 6 months waiting civil aviation permissions to fly inter islands in Cape Verde, Halcyon Air, is stil waiting to get things running as soon as possible, only depending on the authorities to give flying-permissions.

In the meantime it seems that they have sent the airplane to Guinea Bissau, as the authorities there were faster giving them permissions to operate.

I really hope now, after elections, the Cape Verdean Government will react and give green lights for Halcyon-Air !

    Best regards,
    Daniel

Can you tell us what the elections mean for tourism, permits etc. Halcyonair has presumably been blocked by TACV ifluence. From our perspective the national airline appears to be harming not helping the local economy.

Arn’t Halcyon Air an offshoot of Air Luxor and flying inter -Island?

Once more BATMAN talking or presuming about something he does not have slightest clue.
The AAC is a fully independent agency and does not respond to any goverment structure.
TACV would love to have some influence there as it is using leased aircraft from VARIG on its Fortaleza route (Brazil). To give you an idea the Brazilian Civil Aviation has authrised TACV to use its own aircraft on the route and the Capeverdean AAC has not done so yet…

Halcyonair is backed by a number of Cape Verdean and Portuguese tour operators and travel agencies and significantly by a former prime minister of the Cape Verdes. The plane they bought for the Cape Verdes has redeployed to the Dakar-Bissau route because they cannot afford to have it sid idle. Ther is still some hope of a competitive and effective service this summer. Dream On.

Question, how long would we have to endure on one of these old bone shaking propellor planes from the uk to cv.

There is an article on asemana online where the President was interviewed and where he has explained the technical reasons behind the Hacyon-Air issue…understandable if one wants to keep category 1. (a rare achievement in the African Continent)

The latest information is that they filled in the wrong paper work and that this has held things up for six months. Maybe they wanted bangers.
