NEW FERRY FOR CAPE VERDE
A new roll-on/roll-off ferry will arrive at the Cape Verde Islands on 28 November 2011. The new Tuninha shipping company – founded by the Frenchman Gérard Ascher – will operate the ferry that was purchased in Croatia. The 60-meter-long ship will serve all of the Cape Verde Islands except Maio and Brava. The ferry named Vicente can transport up to 150 passengers and 50 cars.
According to Gérard Ascher, the new company’s main strategy is punctuality and comfort, plus well-planned marketing through ticket sales via the Internet and agencies on all of the islands.
The transport schedule is planned in a weekly rhythm. With a maximum stay of two hours per harbour, the following routes will be served: Tuesdays to Mindelo-Sao Nicolau-Sal-Boa Vista-Santiago-Mindelo und Fridays to Mindelo-Fogo-Santiago-Mindelo.
Information about the length and price of the individual routes has not been released yet, with the exception of the owner’s statement that the company definitely intends to offer affordable prices in an appropriate relationship to the rates that have been charged by the smaller ferries up to now.
