NEW FAST FERRY FOR THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS !
Shortly after the start of the year, the brand-new fast ferry arrived in the Cape Verde Islands. It rode piggyback on a freighter from Singapore, where it had been built by the Dutch Damen Shipyards.
The new fast ferry was especially designed and built for use in the Cape Verde Islands. It reaches a maximum of 20 knots/hour and transports up to 158 passengers, 20 cars and 3 trucks. The crew has 6 members.
The maiden voyage took place on 09/01/2011 at 8 a.m. from Santiago to Brava over Fogo, which is also the regular route of this ferry. The travel time between Santiago and Fogo is about 3 hours. Four hours, including one stop, are required to Brava. The route of Fogo-Brava just takes 30 minutes. The ferry already started its regular operations on the day after the maiden voyage.
Prices per person: Santiago-Fogo or Santiago-Brava, middle rows for 30 EUR/window rows for 35 EUR. Fogo-Brava: middle rows for 10 EUR/window rows for 15 EUR.
The Cabo Verde Fast Ferry Shipping Company, which is a public-private partnership, is already having a second fast ferry of this type built for the purpose of serving the rest of the Cape Verde Islands by the middle/end of 2011.
