Would I be right in believing the turtles start to nest around mid October time and there are excursions to watch them lay their eggs?

Hello Andy,

yes now is the right time until late October to see turtle nesting. You may want to look at Sos Tartarugas, as they offer "Turtle Walks":

Hello andyrae1971,

that's true, that turtles are nesting in that time, but PLEASE DON'T DISTURB THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS DURING EGG DEPOSITION. :!:

If they get disturbed, they leave their nests without any protection and the eggs get rotten!! That means, no babis will come out later!!

At the very most a guided visit at these beaches are passable, but it is better, not to enter these areas at all. The turtles will thank you sincerely! 8)

There are much better things to do on these beautiful islands.

I have no intention of disturbing any nests. Just observing these wonderful creatures from a distance.

Hello andyrae1971,

every visit of this nesting area is a disturbance for these impressive animals, also the guided tours.

I'd suggest you not to use this offer, if you are interested in protecting the turtles.

Hello,

I think SOSTartarugas do a good work, if you read about their rescues and how they are fighting against people that kill  turtles on the beach, it´s worth a visit and they are doing very respectfull turtle walks, they are really professionals with turtles and would never harm them or disturb them...

Anyway stay away if you are in doubt (maybe you are alone without professionals that can tell you what to do and what not to do) is then always the best decision...

Hello andyrae1971,

if you want to support turtles to survive you can inform yourself or give a donation to a turtle protecting project, which has activities also in Boavista.
This organisation is called "turtle foundation". You can find it in the internet. :)
